Tech Trends in Adaptec
Adaptec located in Milpitas, Ca is one of the premiere tech companies of the 21st century. It is a public company and was incorporated in 1981. Currently it employs 2,123 people in its operation. There are on the NASDAQ. Ticker symbol is ADPT for access. In 1981 the company was founded by Lawrence Boucher. Five years later it went public. Three years later IBM takes up Adaptec’s SCSI. This brings us to 1995 the company gets a new CEO Grant Saviers.
In 1997 Adaptec’s stocks and sales takes a nose dive. In 1999 CEO Robert Stephens takes charge and things improve from there. Adaptec has been a leader in hardware and software allowing communication between computers on the net. It provides a large share in interface devices for small computer systems. These are known a SCSIs or scuzzys. These systems allow quick movement of data between printers, tape drives, scanners, disc drives and CD-ROM drives.
Adaptec in a data movement company with software networking equipment, they call Silicon Valley their home in Milpitas. Their offices can also be found in Florida, Belgium and Japan. The Florida office runs operations in Latin America. In the 1980s Adaptec produced a variety of microchips and subsystems to meet the growing demand for computers to communicate with each other. During the 1980s as the internet grew so did the demand for devices that Adaptec manufactured thus sales climb making it one of the fastest growing tech companies at that time.
One of these products is the data flow controller. As mentioned earlier in the 90s sales plummeted partly to do with leadership and other reasons. The printer broads were outstanding in the mid 90s. At a trade show in Japan Adaptec demonstrated a laser printer could produce a drawing in 30 seconds rather than 30 minutes as other printers did. Under the leadership of Grant Saviers the company blossomed into a premiere venue.
Shares rose up and they now experienced an increased profit margin. In 1993 they ascertained a net profit of 300 million surpassing what they brought in from the previous year from 49 million. To this day Adaptec is still going strong and we hope for a while to come as they produce quality equipment.
